Good quality stockpotJan. 07, 2008

I purchased this stockpot based on several of its design features, and its very reasonable price. It is made in China, and the finish is clearly not up to the standard of those Calphalon products made in Toledo (if I recall correctly), but at roughly a third the cost, it seems a worthwhile tradeoff to me, especially for a pot that doesn't see everyday usage. Overall, it offers a decent quality anodized finish, is made from heavy gauge material and perfforms very well. The price won't break you and it's a good value for the money. I'm satisfied.
A good pot for the moneyDec. 22, 2006

I have owned a 6 1/2 qt Calphalon stock pot for quite some time, and use it often. My first impression of this 12 quart pot was that it was inferior in terms of surface finish. My small pot was made in Toledo, Ohio, and the big one was made in China. That, evidently, is how it can be sold at such a low price. I almost sent it back to the retailer, but then reconsidered. The surface of the metal inside the pot has small ridges –– very small, but present. I came to the sense that the pot would serve well for stock-making, and that it represented good value for the money. I have used it half a dozen times now, and am happy with it. The handles really do stay cool to the touch, and that makes a difference. The big size makes it possible to cook up big batches of chicken stock, and the lid fits tightly and allows a very long cooking time without losing water. I'm glad to have it.

If making homemade soups is part of your monthly routine, the calphalon stockpot is mandatory for your kitchen. Not only is it light and sturdy, but the lit's seal ensures that there will be little/no spillage. The finish makes cleanup mindless, a very important characteristic after finishing a long family meal. Even a teenager can leave it pristine and ready to use again with very little effort.
